Everything Veterans Need to Know About eBenefits: Features, Services, and How to Get Started

The eBenefits portal, developed by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Department of Defense (DoD), serves as a secure, all-in-one platform for Veterans, Service members, and their families to manage their military and VA benefits.

Key Services and Features

eBenefits provides a variety of self-service tools designed to simplify benefit management. Users can:

  • Check disability compensation claim status

  • Order prescription medications and medical supplies

  • Access military service documents (e.g., DD Form 214)

  • View enrollment status for Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits

  • Generate VA home loan certificates of eligibility

  • Message healthcare providers and access medical records via the VA's Blue Button feature

For Service members, the portal also allows for updating civilian employment information, transferring Post-9/11 GI Bill entitlements, and reviewing TRICARE health insurance details.

Family members can access education benefits, payment histories, and helpful eLearning tools.

How to Access eBenefits?

To use eBenefits, individuals must be registered in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) and obtain a DS Logon, which provides secure access to VA and DoD systems.

Types of DS Logon Accounts

  • Basic Account – Limited access for entering and customizing personal data.

  • Premium Account – Full access to benefit applications, status updates, and VA/DoD records.

Users can register online at www.ebenefits.va.gov or verify their identity at a VA Regional Office if additional validation is required.

Why eBenefits Matters for Veterans?

Established in 2007, eBenefits was developed in response to the President’s Commission on Care for Returning Wounded Warriors to provide a secure, single point of access for managing VA benefits.

Today, it remains an essential tool for millions of Veterans and their families, enabling them to:

  • Apply for benefits quickly and easily

  • Track claims and appeals in real time

  • Access personal and military records securely

Maximizing the Benefits of eBenefits

Veterans and family members can make the most of eBenefits by:

  • Regularly checking claim and benefit statuses

  • Using the portal for document retrieval instead of mailing requests

  • Keeping personal and service-related information updated

To get started, visit www.ebenefits.va.gov and sign up for a DS Logon account today.
