Benefits Hit Starting May 1: Check Your SSI, SNAP, or Social Security Date

If you receive federal benefits, May is a key month to track your payments. Schedules for Social Security, SSI, and SNAP follow different timelines, so knowing your exact date helps you plan ahead.

Here’s a clear breakdown of when to expect your money.

First payment in May: SSI arrives May 1

The first confirmed payment comes from Supplemental Security Income (SSI) under the Social Security Administration.

  • SSI payment date: Friday, May 1, 2026
  • Paid on the first of every month
  • No delay this month since May 1 falls on a weekday

If you receive SSI, you should be among the first to get paid in May.

Social Security payment schedule (May 2026)

Most Social Security recipients are paid based on their birth date.

  • Born 1st–10th → Paid May 13 (Wednesday)
  • Born 11th–20th → Paid May 20 (Wednesday)
  • Born 21st–31st → Paid May 27 (Wednesday)

There is a different schedule if:

  • You started benefits before May 1997
  • You receive both SSI and Social Security

In those cases:

  • SSI arrives May 1
  • Social Security is usually paid around May 3

SNAP payments: Start May 1 but vary by state

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program helps millions of households buy groceries each month.

Unlike Social Security, SNAP payment dates vary widely.

  • Payments begin as early as May 1
  • Some states finish within a few days
  • Others spread payments across the entire month
